Situation

Red Spot (“the Company”) is a global supplier of paint and advanced coatings for plastics. The Company’s technologies include water-and solvent-borne products, single and multi-component coatings, exterior and interior coatings, and coatings for non-automotive applications.

Red Spot was a pioneer in laser etchable coatings for automobile interior applications.

Solution

The Company engaged Amherst Partners (“Amherst”) to act as the exclusive financial advisor and to lead a sale process that would maximize value and identify a global partner with the expertise and resources to expand the Company’s market position.

Results

The sale process was restricted to a narrow list of foreign prospective strategic buyers, from which Amherst received multiple indications of interest.

The Company ultimately completed a transaction with publicly-traded Fujikura Kasei Co., Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan.

Fujikura offered strategic partnership that provided global capabilities and manufacturing synergies that complemented Red Spot’s quality standards and innovation.
