Adult Well-Being Services provides mental health services to primarily lower-income clients at two locations in the metro-Detroit area. The newly appointed CEO was experienced in the counseling practice but was relatively new to organization management and leadership.
Amherst Partners was originally engaged as a consultant to the CEO but later stepped into an Interim CFO role when it became apparent that several business matters were unaddressed, including unpaid financial obligations (e.g., two years of unpaid rent).
Amherst Partners established an on-site presence with an Interim CFO who immediately began to address various financial and operational challenges, which included: accountability and tracking, time and billing, employee relations and retention, as well as cash-flow planning.
The Amherst Interim CFO also negotiated payment terms for outstanding bills including rent and obligations owed to the United Way.
The organization’s processes were stabilized to the point that after the conclusion of the engagement they were able to merge successfully with another similar organization and obtain economies of scale which allowed them to continue operations.
