Marc is a Director in the Investment Banking Group at Amherst Partners, and brings with him well over 20 years of diverse experience both as an investment banker and as a small business owner. Marc believes his background as a financial adviser coupled with his experience as an owner/operator gives him a unique perspective that enables him to relate to our clients in a meaningful way.
Growing up in the city of Detroit, Marc is a proud fourth-generation Detroiter. He attended the University of Michigan, the school he grew up rooting for, where he studied finance and accounting at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Upon graduation, Marc moved to Chicago and embarked on his investment banking career with top-tier investment banking firms including Prudential Securities, Wasserstein Perella & Co. and, most recently, Houlihan Lokey. During his time in investment banking, Marc has advised middle market companies on over $2 billion of M&A transactions with deals ranging from $20 million to over $400 million. Marc has also helped raise over $1.5 billion of debt and equity capital through both public and private financings.
After over a decade in investment banking, Marc and his wife decided to pick up their young family and move to Philadelphia to take on a new challenge of being small business owners through an investment in the restaurant industry. Starting with a single location, he and his wife grew their once-small company to a successful multi-unit, 150+ employee business, transforming it from an unknown startup into a market leader through the development and meticulous execution of their strategic operating plans. Marc and his wife learned quickly that owning a business is much more than just writing a check and watching your investment grow. It takes an unwavering dedication and commitment to your customers, your employees and your brand 24/7/365. Marc believes his experience as a business owner gives him a true appreciation and understanding of what our clients go through on a daily basis to build a successful company.
Marc is happily married to his wife, Emily (a fellow U-M grad), since 2002. The couple has two daughters, Jessica and Allyson, and two Siberian cats, Charlie and Freddy. Jess and Ally are competitive gymnasts and aspiring Wolverines, and they enjoy challenging their parents whenever and however possible. Having built a successful company together, Marc and Emily have been partners both in business and in life. They enjoy spending time with their daughters and watching them grow up (albeit far too quickly), playing tennis (or whatever you call what we do on the court) and spending time with family and friends.
Marc is excited to bring that same heightened sense of dedication and commitment to the customer that he cultivated as a business owner to our clients in the middle market in order to help them achieve their strategic and financial objectives.
Our job is to make the client’s life easier in every way possible. Whether raising capital, seeking a liquidity event or looking for sound strategic advice, our goal is always to let the client continue to do its job operating and growing its business. Let us do the rest.
I grew up playing basketball all hours of the day, year round. I thrive on the competition and the commitment to winning. However, my career did not extend past high school. While it would require going back in time and making different life choices (and perhaps better genes), if I could have any other profession, I would like to be a defensive back in the NFL. I can’t imagine there is anything that is more exhilarating than coming off a blitz and hitting the quarterback. Either that or a concert pianist. Again, different life choices.
